Best Remedy For Hair Loss!
Natural is the best remedy for hair loss. When you start losing your hair, please stop with all chemical treatments. Chemicals and color must cease at this point. Your hair and scalp needs some emergency attention. It's not about Fabulous hairstyles if it strips you of your healthy hair. Go back to the basics. It may be a challenge, but it is the best remedy. You don't have to cut all the relaxer/perm out, but this process of restoration must be done on a continuous schedule in order for it to work. Treatments shouldn't extend over a two weeks. Make sure you have a professional take you through this process.

Stop Damaging your Little Girls Hair!
Hair loss is creeping it's way into our little girls lives. Why? Many parents in their ignorance or laziness make the decision to relax, perm or even begin having extensions put into their hair. Terrible decision! I met a 10yrs young girl whose hair was so damaged by chemical processes and after the humiliation of her being teased at school, her mother starting seeking help. When I met them, one day after her daughter returned home from school, I couldn't believe her mother even allowed her to leave the house without at least making her hair look neat! Well, I gave her some treatments and a beautiful braided style. Not only was she happy, her friends love it.

Cut Away Breakage for A Fabulous Style!
Just because you may have a challenge with hair breakage doesn't mean you are not able to get a FABULOUS hairstyle. Two of my clients, who I haven't seen in a while, had that problem. Of course because they were going to someone else for convenience. This turned out to be an inconvenience for their hair......BREAKAGE! Well, they were smart enough to have the Hair Dr. work with them and here's the results.

Simple Summer Hair!
It's summer! Keep your hairstyles simple and easy to manage especially if you sweat all the time. Use less chemicals in this season because more moisture is stripped from the hair in the summer. Why? More exposure to the sun. If you are used to wearing weaves, take a summer break and let your hair just breathe. You can look beautiful with simplicity.

Emergency Hair Kit!
What do you with your hair when you get caught in the rain? One may say, "If you know it's going to rain, you should prepare." Well, that's not always the case. Weather people are the only ones with a job and get paid for being wrong. Sometimes they just don't know. The best preparation is to make sure you have a few items in your bag:
1. Bob pins/hair pins
2. Mouse, gel or a hair sculpt pomade.
3. Comb and brush
4. Hair elastic or small scrunchy
These simple hair tools can work miracles to frizz, loss of curls, etc. You can create a simple ponytail for long to medium length hair or simple slicks for short hair. Next time, before you leave the house, pack a small sample emergency hair kit. Your hair will love you.

Don't Weigh Your Hair Down!
My family came up to visit for the holiday and of course they make their hair appointments with me. Well, after working on hair from Friday night til Saturday afternoon, I finally got to my eldest sister. Her textured hair isn't like ours at all. It is fine, so the products I use on my hair, I wouldn't for her because my hair is very thick with full tight natural curls. So, she sits in the chair and began questioning me about conditioners. Then she said, "Oh, I forgot to pick up a hot oil treatment for my hair". Of course I frowned and asked, "For what?" She replied, "For my hair", with so much confidence in her ignorance. I explained to her that a hot oil treatment for fine hair is a NO, NO! It will weigh the hair down and make it limp and hard to keep curls. Fine hair textures need light conditioning treatments, oils and hairdressing creams. Just a little will do.

How to Properly Condition Your Hair!
There are two types of conditioners:
Leave-In Conditioner
Deep Conditioner
A leave- in conditioner is a light liquid applied to wet hair that makes it easier to comb, blow dry and style. A deep conditioner is applied to wet hair as well. The difference is, deep conditioners are thicker consistency and should saturate the entire hair from root to ends. It should be also massaged into the scalp and a plastic cap is placed on the clients head. He/she is then placed under the dryer for at least 20 -25 minutes. This allows the conditioner to penetrate the core of the hair and repair any damage. The hair is then rinsed and styled as to be desired.
Both conditioners should be used interchangeably every two weeks to keep the hair properly nourished. This also is very important if you receive any chemical treatments to help prevent breakage.

I Take Care of My Hair and It's Still Breaking!
Experiencing dry, brittle hair that's constantly breaking although you take care of it? Sometimes too much of a good thing isn't good at all. While some people don't deep condition their hair enough, others do it too much. Too much protein in the hair crystallizes the hair, making it dry and hard. The result is breakage. Everything must have a balance. Besides increase your water intake. This helps to lubricate the hair as well as the skin. Your hair, skin and nails will give off a silky look.

Special Hair Growth Oil
Because many people are experiencing hair loss at such a high percentage today, I have put together a customized blend to help stimulate hair growth. However, there are somethings that you must consider:
1. Your stress level-stress is one of the major reasons people experience hair loss.
2. Hair tension from hair extensions, wigs, braids and molded hair styles.
3. Neglecting to get regular deep conditions and hair treatments.
4. Constant use of chemical treatments.

Men shouldn't just get their hair trimmed wearing a short Afro style if they have thinning or bald spots. The style isn't suitable for the condition. Have a professional treat the thinning area. In the mean time, have your hair trimmed as low as it can go to blend in with the thin areas if possible. Wear a low fade or shadow, but please get rid of the Afro.

Avoid Breakage to Relaxed Hair!
If your hair is relaxed, proper maintenance is very important. Depending on the texture really determines how often you should get a touch up.
Course hair-every 6 weeks
Medium hair-6 to 8 weeks
Fine hair-10 to 12 weeks
Major hair loss takes place when women allow their new growth to grow in beyond the time they should have it touched-up. A stress point builds up between the relaxed area and new growth. This is where the breakage will began. Follow the maintenance plan for relaxed hair and you will avoid hair loss and breakage.

Dry Brittle Hair May Come from......
There are a few reasons why people suffer from dry brittle hair.
1. Lack of the proper amount of alkaline water intake daily.
2. Neglecting conditioning treatments.
3. Using shampoos and conditioners that have synthetic ingredients which strips the hair of its moisture.
If you are guilty of one or all three, just make a change by doing the opposite and you'll put life and moisture back into your hair.

How Do You Make Thin Hair Fuller?
I hate to burst your bubble, but their is no magic hair product that makes thin hair fuller. That is, if your hair is naturally thin, the texture is what it is. Now, keeping it cut shorter gives you a fuller look, but the longer you let it grow the thinner it looks. It's just like looking at two people whose weight are the same in pounds, but one is short and the other is tall. The taller person looks thinner and the shorter person looks heavier because of the difference in length/height although their weight is the same. Your hair strands never change in weight/diameter, it always remain the same. You can have it colored darker to give it an illusion of a fuller look, but it still is what it is...and if it's already dark, learn to appreciate and work with it.

Lazy Wig Sindrome
I did a full hair weave for a client two weeks before I went on vacation. When I returned, she had a new style. It was a wig on top of the weave. Ridiculous! Instead of taking the time to wrap or pin the original style up and cover it overnight while she slept like I showed her, she decided to be LAZY and waste money on a wig.
If you are a lazy person when it comes to your hair, please buy a weave that is pre-curled and you don't have to worry about upkeep. Just get up and go. For my client, it was a straight weave she thought she wanted at the time. So, my question would be, before the weave epidemic, she had to maintain her hair somehow, so why get lazy now!

Hair Abuse
I met a women who has been going to her hairstylist for 10 years. She was wearing a wig and when she removed it there was a bandage across her forehead near her hairline. I asked what happened and she explained.
Long story short, her hairstylist gave her a quick weave and during the process of removal, it tore the skin across her hairline. She had to get it treated by her doctor.
This is a sad case because this woman entrusted her hair into the hands of someone she's known for years to be a "professional". Is the hair industry turning into just for profit and not for hair care?
The Hair Dr. wasn't to happy about this. I treat every client's hair with special attention. So if you have problems with your hair, call me NOW!

I'm meeting so many women with thinning or bald edges because of extensions, braids, ect. The solution to them is STOP getting THAT which is causing the problem....and though they complain, many keep putting stress on their hair strands that are getting thinner and thinner.
They haven't experienced extreme baldness or almost irreversible damage yet.. but why wait until it's an emergency to get help. Use preventative measures, like giving your hair a rest in between braid style.
The Hair Dr. can help with preventative measures as well as helping to "Sick Hair Get Well." Call Darlene at 973-572-28819

Cure Dry, Itchy and Flaky Scalp
Cure your dry, itchy and flaky scalp by increasing your water intake. Alkaline water is important to help your organs and systems function properly, as well as stimulate your scalp for healthy hair growth. If you take in a sufficient amount of water each day (at least 8 8oz. glasses), you will find natural oils produced in the body will lubricate the scalp and make it more flexible. You will also be relieved of the itch and snow flaks that attracts negative attention.

Discomfort in the chair, but FABULOUS hair!
How many women leave the salon chair in "DISCOMFORT OR PAIN" OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, with a FABULOUS Hairstyle/WEAVE and never say a word to their Cosmetologist/Hairstylist?
INSANITY, INSANITY, INSANITY
This is unfair to the cosmetologist/hairstylist that is concerned about "HAIR CARE" and moreso YOU! Communication is the key!
For me, I always ask my clients throughout the hair session if they are ok? Because I'm very gentle, I have no problems. Every Hairstylist is different, so make sure you let them know what you are experiencing.

Tame the Frizz!
If you are dealing with natural frizz, it's ok. You just need to know what products are best to use. Of course with ethnic natural frizz, use "Let's Jam" for ponytails or buns. You can also use a product with beeswax and Shea butter. For me, I mix all three together for best results. Then cover my hair with a hair tie/scarf until I'm ready to go out. Mouses and gels work better with European frizz.
If you are wearing a loose curl, then make sure a curling wax or oil (depending on your texture) is applied lightly throughout the hair before curling with an iron. This works for all hair types.

Don't Cut your hair down like a man!
Ladies, ladies, ladies.....I can understand if your hair is really damaged or you are experiencing some health issues and "have to" cut your hair really short. But to cut your hair short like a man for a fashion statement is not a good statement. We as women are the feminine aspect of men and with that comes how we adorn ourselves. Hair is very vital because it is one of the first things people see when we come into their view. How we look says a lot without us even opening up our mouths to speak....and by far, a woman with her hair cut like a man says nothing but masculinity, subliminally speaking.

Dangers of Chemicals in Children's Hair!
Deciding to put a chemical relaxer or straightener in your child's hair before she/he goes through puberty is the worse thing you can do. Not only is their hair growing rapidly, their mental, physical and social changes take place more during these years than after puberty. Treating their hair with chemicals damages the proper growth and also has an effect on the scalp, making it even the more sensitive and prone to skin/scalp diseases.
Children with chemically treated hair are more likely to experience hair loss and/or baldness before they reach the age of 30. Who wants to look in a mirror at the prime of their life with lifeless thinning hair. If you have a child under the age of 14yr., do not consider putting chemicals in her/his hair. For your daughters, get it pressed every week if need be. If you have already started the chemical process, you can go back through the natural process, by discontinuing the chemicals and having a professional care for it by pressing the new growth until the chemical grows out.
This may take up to 6 months, but it worth saving the health of your child's hair. Just what the Hair Dr. Ordered! If you need help making the transition or with the upkeep of your child's natural hair, call Darlene at 973-572-2819.

The danger of keeping any hairstyle too long....
Is DAMAGE, DAMAGE, DAMAGE! I gave a client a beautiful hairstyle to keep for a few weeks. She kept it longer than expected. This caused a problem. When she finally called me to give her a fresh style, she was still wearing the old one...and boy was it old. So, this made my job hard. During shampoo, her hair was so matted and tangled that I had to apply conditioner at the same time. I also had to brush out the tangles little by little. Of course, a lot of breakage took place, but at this point that was beyond my control.
Ladies, please do your hair designer/stylist a favor, listen to them when they tell you that a particular style should only be kept for a specific length of time. It will save your hair and him/her the headache and time. A thought from the Hair Dr. Darlene. Call me now at 973-572-2819
